Incident Bulletin 30 December, 2024
The Incident Bulletin is sent once a week, when there are major incidents to report affecting postal distribution.
This week's bulletin contains information about Vanuatu and Malaysia.
Vanuatu
Report date: 23 December
Incident: Postal and financial services disruption following earthquake
Vanuatu Post Limited would like to inform that that a 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit Vanuatu on 17 December 2024, disrupting Internet connectivity and international flights in and out of the country.
This natural disaster has caused significant structural concerns at the Vanuatu Post Limited building. Additionally, both international and domestic airports are temporarily closed for repairs, and road access to domestic and international seaports is blocked owing to a landslide. Internet connectivity and electricity are currently down, preventing the provision of financial services and the electronic handling of international inquiries using the Internet-Based Inquiry System (IBIS) and the iCare system.
While Vanuatu Post Limited will continue to operate, the quality of postal services for international inbound and outbound mail, as well as service delivery standards (including delivery times and other quality parameters), cannot be guaranteed for all postal items (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items).
Malaysia
Report date: 26 December
Incident: Back to normal
Pos Malaysia wishes to inform that the situation has returned to normal and that all postal operations resumed on 23 December 2024.
